The Penguins have fallen off a cliff this season. The Crosby-Malkin era may technically still have a pulse, but it is on life support.
At this point, it feels like the team is nowhere near where they need to be, and the players look like they have given up.
Now it seems as though Mike Sullivan, the second longest tenured coach in the league, may finally lose his job because of it.
According to NHL rumors guru Eklund, the Penguins are already planning for this eventuality.
Penguins fans are ready for it. Many have been saying this is the way for ward for some time now.
Not only are the Penguins bad, but the players look disengaged and uninterested in playing the game, especially on defense.
Some fans have pointed to the Boston Bruins as a good model. Since they fired Jim Montgomery, the team is undefeated. It is only two games, but still.
Speaking of Montgomery, he would have been a good candidate to replace Sullivan if the Penguins had any sense. However, they have already lost that opportunity as the Blues hired him today.
This is notable because Eklund also reported that Montgomery could sign with a team soon in his report from Friday. This gives him credibility, making it more believable that the Penguins will fire Sullivan soon.
Whatever happens, big changes appear to be on the horizon in Pittsburgh. Be sure to tune in over the coming days and weeks as we find out how the organization will handle this tumultuous time.
