Bunting inked a three-year, $13.5 million deal during the 2023 free agency, before being traded to the Penguins in March 2024.

The NHL offseason offers a chance for rest, recovery, vacations, and, for some, special celebrations.
Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Michael Bunting took full advantage of this time, as he celebrated a significant milestonetying the knot with his longtime partner Jordan McDonnell this past weekend in Toronto.
The couple shared the happy news on Instagram this Sunday.

Guests at the event included family, friends, and several current and former Maple Leafs members. A story shared by Stephanie Marner, Mitch Marner's wife, features a video capturing Bunting's lively personality, which Leafs Nation cherished during his time in Toronto. Although Marner isn't shown in the video, his relationship with the Scarborough native was well-known, suggesting he was likely present.
Wes Clark, the former Leafs director of scouting now leading amateur, professional, and college/European free-agent scouting in Pittsburgh, was also there for the special event. Clark shared the moment on his Instagram story.

Bunting spent two seasons with his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, appearing in a total of 174 regular-season and playoff games. During his time in Toronto, he tallied 48 goals and 69 assists, accumulating 117 points.
After consecutive seasons of scoring over 20 goals, Bunting was poised for the largest pay increase of his career. He signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2023 free agency. However, in March 2024, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the trade that sent Jake Guentzel to Raleigh.
The tenacious winger enjoyed a stellar run with the Pittsburgh Penguins after being traded by the Carolina Hurricanes at last season's deadline. Bunting notched 19 points in 21 games with Pittsburgh, often playing alongside superstar Sidney Crosby.
Bunting also reconnected with former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas, known for his fondness for his former Soo Greyhounds players. Dubas's decision to give Bunting a chance on the Maple Leafs' top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner in 2021-22 was pivotal for his career trajectory.
With Bunting signed at a $4.5 million cap hit for the next two seasons, he'll be expected to make a significant impact on a Penguins offense that has underperformed.
Congratulations to Bunting on his wedding, and best wishes for the upcoming season.
