Calgary Flames unveil new arena, putting another NHL team at risk
The Calgary Flames have finally unveiled the new look of their future arena, Scotia Place. The spotlight has now shifted to another NHL team, the Ottawa Senators.
There was a time just a few months ago when the Calgary Flames were at risk of potentially relocating, after it was unclear whether they were going to get a new NHL arena. Things have finally cleared up for the franchise with the unveiling of their new future home, and it's safe to say fans in Calgary no longer have anything to worry about. It's the total opposite situation when looking at the Ottawa Senators franchise.
The Flames have unveiled renderings of Scotia Place, the team's new arena. 🔥

«I think it'll be great for the city, and it'll be really good for the team and the players that are there, too.»

The Ottawa Senators have been playing at their Canadian Tire Centre arena since the late 1990s. The arena has grown old, and there have been numerous times where there were rumors they would be building a new arena downtown, as they currently play 25 minutes away from the city center, and that's when there's no traffic.
Gary Bettman does not mess around when it comes to NHL teams playing in state of the art arenas, and the Sens desperately need a new one built. If they don't figure out a solution quick, their time in Ottawa is at risk of being done.
on The Jeff Marek Show, Friedman says that the league is very protective of the Senators. He likens it to their treatment of Arizona just in the sense that attendance and off ice issues have had parallels in years past.
Friedman also adds that the prospect of a new arena downtown is the reason that the team will remain in Ottawa and that he thinks they'll be there in the near future.
The league wants the Sens to remain in Ottawa, but to do so, they need a new arena, as was mentioned on the Jeff Marek Show. Now that the Calgary Flames have finally agreed to build theirs, Bettman will closely be watching the Senators and their ownership group, as there have been far too many delays in the past with building a new one in downtown Ottawa. The time is now for the Sens to act, and act quick they must!!
