Pittsburgh Penguins announce multiple cuts from training camp
President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have cut their training camp roster to 64 players.
In a significant preseason move, the Pittsburgh Penguins have streamlined their training camp roster to 64, as confirmed by Kyle Dubas. This adjustment marks a pivotal preparation step as the team gears up for its forthcoming preseason encounter.
The roster refinement saw several promising young players reassigned to their junior squads, signaling a focus on further development. The players listed below have been allocated to their respective junior teams:
F Justin Cloutier - Soo Greyhounds (OHL)
F Cooper Foster - Ottawa 67's (OHL)
D Caeden Carlisle - Soo Greyhounds (OHL)
D Donovan McCoy - Sudbury Wolves (OHL)
D Emil Pieniniemi - Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)
G Charlie Schenkel - Soo Greyhounds (OHL) An updated roster for the training camp can be found here
Head coach Mike Sullivan stated that even though the preseason is still early, there are several qualities they expect all of their players to exhibit in these contests, most notably the "foundational habit" of competitive spirit.
"The expectation is if you become a Pittsburgh Penguin, that you're gonna be a fierce competitor," he said. "That manifests itself in a number of different ways on the ice. It's in one-on-one battles, puck battles along the wall, wall play, net-front play. Can you play when you're tired, or do you just give in?"
The Penguins take on the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center tonight at 7:00 PM ET to begin their preseason schedule. Locally, the game will air on SportsNet Pittsburgh and be broadcast on 105.9 'The X,' the official flagship radio station of the Penguins.
This series of moves and the upcoming game underscore the Penguins' strategic preparations and adjustments as they aim for a competitive edge in the upcoming season.
