Penguins Veteran Forward on the Verge of a Major Trade, per The Fourth Period
The Penguins are making some major roster shakeups, and one of their veteran forwards has been made available for all teams to take a crack at acquiring him.
The surprise spectator for the Detroit Red Wings versus the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night was Penguins president and general manager Kyle Dubas.
With trade rumors really heating up, it seems the Penguins are ready to mix things up, and now speculation is running rampant on potential deals involving the three teams.
One player who continues to be in the rumor mill is Penguins forward Bryan Rust. David Pagnotta of 'The Fourth Period' reports Rust as the top trade target from Pittsburgh.
Well, he's available. If you talk to people around the league, Kyle Dubas has made it known that pretty much everybody including Rust is available. You mentioned he has a no-movement clause - that expires July 1, 2025.
For teams that want to get an offensive guy, he's gonna be attractive piece. Now, I can tell you (the Penguins) have not had any discussions with Rust or his camp about the possibility of waving his no-movement clause. It's too early right now, that hasn't even crossed their minds.
- David Pagnotta
The 32-year-old winger carries a $5.12 million AAV contract that runs through the 2027-28 season. His no-movement clause doesn't expire until July 1, 2025.
Rust has been a consistent contributor for the Penguins this season, picking up seven goals and 11 points in 17 games.
The Penguins are not exactly surging, sitting at 8-12-4 after their win over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night, which has them ranked second-to-last in the Eastern Conference standings.
Insiders suggest Dubas will go all in, with the plan of refreshing the lineup with youngsters while moving up the talent curve.
Given his trade value and years of experience, Rust may well be a likely candidate for a trade in the next couple of weeks.
