At 7-12-4, the new NHL season has been an unmitigated disaster for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and after moving Lars Eller and continuing to struggle, many believe that there's more trades to come.
Despite acquiring Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators, the Penguins are still on the outside looking in at a potential playoff spot, and given the way they've performed this season, all signs point to nothing changing for them with the current roster.
One player that appears to be on the move is Marcus Pettersson, with the team rumoured to be ready to trade him after holding off extension talks early in the season to see how things played out.
Now, speculation surrounding the veteran is heating up, with the defending Western Conference Champions Edmonton Oilers the latest team linked to Pettersson's services ahead of the trade deadline.
According to the Hockey Writers, Pettersson is a perfect fit for the Oilers, who simply look to get talent on their blue line, and with Pettersson being a rental, they are likely to be able to afford his services if they are confident he can help them take one more step this season.
With Edmonton not in perfect form early in the season, they may be needing more than one acquisition at the trade deadline, so it likely won't be anytime soon that this Oilers team look to buy, but if they can fix their depth problems up front internally or potentially on waivers, then Pettersson becomes the perfect target for them.
