The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on Saturday night thanks to two goals from Sidney Crosby. Now it seems that Sidney Crosby is on the verge to surpass one of Wayne Gretzky's records, even before Alex Ovechkin breaks the goal record.
With 4:03 left in the first period, Crosby put the Penguins ahead, and with 1:20 left in the second, he made it 2-0 on a power play. He shares 14th place on the NHL's all-time list of game-winning goals with Joe Nieuwendyk and Sergei Fedorov. For the 13th-most even-strength goals in league history, Crosby overtook Luc Robitaille.
Crosby has returned to his offensive game with a vengeance after a comparatively slow start to the season in terms of production (at least by his extraordinarily high standards). After 13 games, he now has 14 points (5G-9A). In his last three games, Crosby has scored four goals and collected seven points. Crosby scored two goals in a victory over Anaheim on Thursday, marking the seventh time he has scored multiple goals in consecutive games.
The Penguins will begin a three-game road trip on Monday after taking a day off on Sunday. They will play the Capitals, Hurricanes, and Islanders.
