The drama surrounding the goaltending in Pittsburgh doesn't seem to end, and as the trade deadline continues to approach, chatter has continued to pick up.

Goaltending for the Pittsburgh Penguins has become an unlikely strength, and it promises to present an interesting trade opportunity with the NHL trade market starting to warm up.

Desperate needs by teams like Edmonton and Ottawa could make the Penguins' depth one that would position them as major players in the trade landscape.

General Manager Kyle Dubas and Assistant GM Jason Spezza have loaded the club with a treasure trove of goaltending depth. From the NHL right through the minors, their system is chock full of options.

Most notably, Russian prospect Sergei Murashov has become a star; since Nov. 1, he is 14-2-0 in the ECHL with a.924 save percentage, outplaying fellow prospect Taylor Gauthier, the reigning ECHL Goalie of the Year.

Meanwhile, in the AHL, Filip Larsson has been the better goalie this season compared to Joel Blomqvist, despite Joel Blomqvist having NHL experience earlier in the year.

Filip Larsson's .932 save percentage and consistent play cement him as a standout, while Blomqvist's .904 save percentage says there's work to do. At the NHL level, Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic have recovered from slow starts.

Though Tristan Jarry's .894 save percentage is far from remarkable, it is at least showing upward mobility. Alex Nedeljkovic meanwhile, at a .888 save percentage, has been reliable and cost-effective, thanks to a two-year, $5 million contract.

The Penguins' depth affords Kyle Dubas flexibility. They could trade an AHL goalie as part of a larger deal or explore moving an NHL goalie like Nedeljkovic. His affordability and scrappy style could attract interest from goalie-needy teams.

With few quality options available on the market, like John Gibson or Vitek Vanecek, the Penguins' assets are quite valuable. Moving a goalie now could clear a path for Sergei Murashov and bring in assets to further improve the roster.
