The Pittsburgh Penguins appear intent on keeping Sidney Crosby, but now Georges Laraque has suggested a scenario in which he ends up with the Canadiens.
Despite the Pittsburgh Penguins turning things around in recent times, rumours have persisted around captain Sidney Crosby, despite GM Kyle Dubas insisting that he had no interest in moving on from the captain.
However, that hasn't stopped the speculation, with the newest piece of information coming from his former teammate Georges Laraque, who suggests Crosby to Montreal as 'not as impossible as it seems'.
»If Crosby brings the Canadiens, and I'm not talking about a Stanley Cup here, but to another level. For his career and his pedigree, doing that in Montreal, his popularity would skyrocket.
I understand it would be surprising to see Sid with the Canadiens, and I agree with you, but there's one thing, for example-when they're on track to miss the playoffs this year, they'll start cashing in on the players they have to begin preparing for the rebuild.
The Canadiens have enormous potential, and it would be a great challenge for Sid the Kid.
Crosby, it's already been said in the past-I played with him-he loves hockey markets, and Montreal would be perfect for him.
It's not as impossible as it seems.»
While it's definitely an intriguing idea, the Penguins are back in the Stanley Cup hunt, and unless No. 87 specifically asks for a trade, there would be no reason for Dubas to force one upon him.
It may be cool to see Crosby in arguably the NHL's best ever market and team, especially in his home country of Canada, but for now, it's safe to say that Canadiens fans shouldn't get their hopes up as a result of this comment from Laraque.
