The Pittsburgh Penguins entered the new season full of confidence that they could turn their recent luck around, but through seven games they find themselves 3-4-0, but the biggest issue of all is their goaltending. Many believed that the return of Alex Nedeljkovic would fix those issues, but he gave up five goals on 36 shots to the Winnipeg Jets, and now those questions grow louder.
The biggest struggler of all this year has been veteran Tristan Jarry, who has allowed a 5.47 GAA and an .836 save percentage on the year, but with a contract that pays him $5.25M annually over the next four years, it's unclear exactly what his role will be moving forward. Some have suggested trading the veteran goaltender, but with that cap hit and the lack of production, it's seemingly impossible at this stage.
That leaves two options, and now top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman wondered if the team have considered placing the 29-year old on waivers, as no one would claim him, but would leave them with an expensive problem in the AHL.
It's unclear how close Kyle Dubas and the front office have been to making that move, but with 22-year old standout Joel Blomqvist proving the only consistent net minder for Pittsburgh this season and a returning Nedeljkovic, this may be something that happens in the coming days and weeks as they look to get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
