Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Dmitri Samorukov is leaving his NHL team to sign with CSKA Moscow in the KHL.

Samorukov was signed by the Penguins to a one-year contract worth $775,000 a few days before American Thanksgiving, and he had a very interesting way of explaining how he got his start with the Penguins. Samorukov compared his signing to that of winning the lottery.
«I couldn't be more happy,» Samorukov said Nov. 22. «I think I got the lucky ticket. It's a good place.»

Sadly he did not suit up for a single game with Pittsburgh, despite signing this one-year contract.
The Penguins have signed defenseman Dmitri Samorukov to a one-year contract.

The contract runs through the 2023.24 season and carries an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level.
After spending less than one full season with the Penguins organization, Samorukov has decided to pack his bags and head overseas to the KHL.
According to @championat forward Ruslan #Iskhakov & defenceman Dmitri #Samorukov will sign with CSKA Moscow in #KHL. Iskhakov played for New York Islanders & Samorukov for Pittsburgh Penguins #NHL organisations last season.
Samorukov did not appear in a single game with the Penguins last season, instead spending the entire year in the AHL with the Penguins affiliate team, the WIlkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he picked up 5 goals and 10 assists in 64 games. Perhaps not playing a single minute with Pittsburgh is the reason for his swift departure.
