Maple Leafs embroiled in significant PETA controversy over jersey sponsorship
The Toronto Maple Leafs have faced criticism from PETA for their jersey sponsorship with Milk.
A conflict has arisen between MLSE CEO Keith Pelley and PETA president Ingrid Newkirk, centered around the sponsorship of milk on jerseys, seemingly over a simple glass of milk.

The Leafs initiated their collaboration with Milk in the 2022-23 NHL season, aiming to raise awareness and enhance sales for the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
The first-ever sponsorship patch on #leafs game sweaters will be the Dairy Farmers of Ontario's «Milk» logo
Newkirk argues that the Leafs' decision to wear the Milk patch on their jerseys supports climate change, which she attributes to dairy milk production.
"We hope you can appreciate the irony of an ice-based sports team accepting a sponsorship from the ice capmelting dairy industry. Dairy farms are a significant contributor to the climate catastrophe"
Newkirk also contends that the Leafs' wearing of the Milk patch on their jerseys promotes diseases like colon and prostate cancers, heart disease, chronic inflammation, and lactose intolerance effects.
Despite this, she empathized with the suffering endured by Leafs fans over recent decades.
"Our condolences for this year's devastating playoff loss. So many Leafs fans have now endured decades of heartbreak, watching a team with so much talent and promise fail to piece together a successful Stanley Cup run"
The Maple Leafs have not yet issued any statements regarding this matter.
