Amanda Kessel was recently selected in the 2024 PWHL draft to start playing in the league, however that won't be happening anymore due to her latest promotion.
It's just been announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins have promoted Amanda Kessel to role of manager of the Penguins Minor League Operations, as well as assistant general manager to Jason Spezza with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Amanda Kessel served as a special assistant to GM Kyle Dubas of the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, so she will definitely have a lot more responsibility this year with the two roles she's taking on.
There was a little bit of controversy that surrounds Amanda Kessel in terms of her potential season in the PWHL. The 32-year-old had mentioned that she only wanted to play for Boston, however it seems teams were not made aware of that because when she declared for the 2024 PWHL Draft, it meant that she was essentially saying she was willing to play for any team, so Montreal ended up choosing her. It appears there was a little confusion there, however she has nothing to worry about anymore, as neither Montreal or Boston will be getting her services, seeing as she will be remaining with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.
In terms of Amanda Kessel's playing career, she scored five points in six games with Team Adidas in the PWHPA in 2022-23, and added an additional five goals and nine points in the seven games she played in at the World Championships, where she helped USA win gold.
Amanda Kessel has an impressive resume, where she can proudly say she's won four World Championship gold medals and an Olympic gold medal as a member of Team USA. She represented the USA seven times at the World Championships and an impressive three times at the Olympics.
