Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins have suffered a major loss to the potential opening night lineup after goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic was forced to leave the Penguins game due to injury

The Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping to get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024-25. The expectation was that the Penguins would enter this season with Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic as their goaltending tandem. However, tonight Alex Nedeljkovic left their preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings with an injury.
He was replaced by Joel Blomqvist during the game and then after the period Joel Blomqvist came back out once again and was in goal with Alex Nedeljkovic remaining in the locker room.
Luckily the Pittsburgh Penguins have a lot of depth at the goaltending position this season. If Alex Nedeljkovic is going to miss time they can let other guys step up in that backup role behind Tristan Jarry. The first who will likely get the opportunity if needed is Joel Blomqvist.
The Penguins also have promising goaltenders Filip Larsson and Sergei Murashov who likely are not ready for NHL action but have impressed in Europe. They will fill the AHL roles if Joel Blomqvist is needed at the NHL level.
Of course, the Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping the Alex Nedeljkovic situation is not serious and he is able to return before the beginning of the NHL season. As more information is provided by the organization on the status of Alex Nedeljkovic we will pass it along to you.
