Two PTOs have been announced by the Ottawa Senators for training camp. Nikolay Kulemin, a former Maple Leaf, is one of those players making a comeback after a six-year absence.
The Ottawa Senators have let their supporters down in the previous few seasons, and now they've let them down once more following some intriguing off-season decisions. The more surprising of the two PTO signings was Nikolay Kulemin, a former Toronto Maple Leaf who hasn't played in the NHL since 2018. The team announced their PTO signings on Thursday.
Having played 669 NHL games, he is 38 years old and has spent his time away from the league in the KHL with two different teams. Now, he is looking to resume his career in North America. Although Kulemin was a good player and the Maple Leafs' second-round pick in the 2006 NHL Draft, he never became the superstar many had hoped for.
We'll have to wait until Senators training camp to find out how this one turns out because Kulemin hasn't been producing much in the KHL since leaving the New York Islanders. As a result, it's unclear if he can succeed at the NHL level right now.
