The future of Brady Tkachuk looks to be answered for now as rumors have swirled over a potential blockbuster move out of Ottawa.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli seemed to pour cold water on rumors of a deal that could send Brady Tkachuk out of Ottawa, sharing a video from earlier in the season of Tkachuk discussing with Frank Seravalli his desire to stay with the Senators and compete, with Seravalli giving credibility to the idea the situation remains the same as the team denies looking to move their captain.
In the wake of the deal that sent Rangers captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, speculation began hinting at what could be the team gearing up for a eventual larger move with Trouba's $8M contract which extended into 2026 now off the books as the Rangers were able to move on from the defenseman without retention.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported that Tkachuk was a "main target" for the New York Rangers, with the team looking at a possible trade for the Senators star winger.
Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch quickly refuted the idea of a possible Tkachuk deal, saying there is nothing to a possible deal between the Rangers and Senators that involve Tkachuk.
Senators Vice President of Communications seemed to outright call the rumored proposal a lie, tweeting out a thesaurus definition of the word "whopper" after the news broke.
The Tkachuk family is no stranger to blockbuster deals. Older brother Matthew was traded in a blockbuster deal in 2022 that sent him from the Calgary Flames to the Florida Panthers in exchange for fellow star Jonathan Huberdeau, as well as Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt, and a first round pick, with the deal coming just two days after Matthew requested out from Calgary. Father Keith was apart of a major trade with the Phoenix Coyotes to the St. Louis Blues in 2001.
Of course, while in Ottawa it is reported there is no plan for a deal, that doesn't delegitimize the idea that the Rangers have interest in Tkachuk, but it does present a trade push being one-sided, something that doesn't align with the Senators goals, or what Tkachuk says publicly in the media.
The Senators sit fifth in the Atlantic Division with a 12-12-2 record in 26 games, two points back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Ottawa Senators have never made the playoffs in Tkachuk's tenure with the team.
Tkachuk has a team leading 13 goals, and also has 16 assists for 29 points in 2024-25. In seven NHL seasons, Tkachuk has 175 goals, 203 assists & 378 points, a four-time All-Star.
