Veteran New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider recently shared that he grapples with anxiety on a daily basis, surprising many of his fans.
Hockey players are supposed to be tough. They're supposed to play through anything and everything. But there's sometimes stuff you can't necessarily see, stuff that's not physical. I've personally dealt with anxiety, and it's a common thing. When you're in it, you feel like you're on an island, going up and down. I don't think it was until the last few years where I realized how many people are experiencing it or have experienced it.
With 12 years in the NHL and a history of being involved in controversies, Kreider's admission about his mental health struggles highlights that these issues can affect anyone, no matter their perceived toughness or their level of success.
#NYR players Chris Kreider, Jonathan Quick & Matt Rempe will be taking part in Shoulder Check Showcase charity event Thursday in Stamford, CT.
Here's the "powerful, touching" story behind it all, with stick taps to Dave Maloney & Rob Thorsen 👇
Kreider's openness could pave the way for others in the hockey world to share their own experiences with mental health. The support from fans, friends, and family is crucial as they navigate these challenges. We're all rooting for them.
