The Montreal Canadiens have made several updates to their hockey operations department as they prepare for the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season.

NHL training camps are just around the corner, and the Montreal Canadiens have announced changes to their Hockey Operations Department ahead of the new season.
One notable change involves the hiring of Roger Grillo, who will join head coach Martin St. Louis' staff as a coaching consultant. A familiar face to Martin St. Louis, Grillo previously worked as assistant coach for the University of Vermont's men's hockey team during Martin St. Louis playing days there.
Grillo brings vast experience from his time as a player at the NCAA level and his tenure as a Director of Player Development with USA Hockey. His addition to the coaching staff is expected to bolster the Canadiens' strategic approach, providing critical insights as the team continues its rebuild.

The Canadiens aim for a competitive rebuild

The Canadiens didn't stop with Grillo's hire. Albie O'Connell has been promoted to Chief North American Scout, Tommy Lehman to Chief European Scout, and Matt Ryan has been hired as Pro Scout. Additionally, Dale Lablans is now the head of performance, Stéphane Gervais has taken over as strength and conditioning coach, and Mitch Freeburn has stepped into Gervais' previous role for the Laval Rocket.
The organization hopes these changes will help accelerate the Canadiens' rebuild and make them a more competitive team this season. Martin St. Louis, in particular, is under pressure to continue developing young talent as the team looks to make a push for a playoff spot.
The Canadiens are banking on the youth they've collected over the last few seasons to take the next step, and the new hires will play crucial roles in ensuring that happens. Fans will be eager to see if St. Louis and his revamped staff can elevate the team to new heights.
