A sudden setback for the Montreal Canadiens as top defenseman Kaiden Guhle will miss training camp due to emergency appendix surgery.

Kaiden Guhle, the team's young defenseman, needed emergency surgery to treat appendicitis, the Montreal Canadiens announced on social media X.
He will be absent from training camp and preseason games for at least the next seven days. He will undergo another evaluation the following week.
Kaiden Guhle was selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. In his two seasons as a player, he has contributed 30 assists in addition to 10 goals for a total of 40 points.
Guhle, 22, inked a six-year, $33.3-million contract extension in July and is gearing up for his third NHL season. He will continue to play under his entry-level contract this season, which expires at the end of the calendar year.
Kaiden Guhle finished third among Canadiens defenders in ice time per game with an average of 20:51 through 70 games played in the previous season, scoring six goals and 22 points. He played 44 games in his rookie season of 2022-2023 and finished with four goals and eighteen points.
Wishing Guhle a swift recovery.
