Huge rumour surfaces linking Patrik Laine to the Montreal Canadiens
A major report has emerged linking the Montreal Canadiens to a potential acquisition of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine.
Multiple teams have shown significant interest in acquiring Patrik Laine. Until recently, the Carolina Hurricanes were rumored to be in trade talks for Laine, but those discussions quickly faded after the NHL draft in June.
While some think that a Martin Necas for Patrick Laine trade with added assets might be the play here, do we think that the Hurricanes can get Laine without giving them Necas?
Currently, the Montreal Canadiens have expressed significant interest in Laine. GM Kent Hughes is reportedly working out the details, and league sources suggest that both teams are very close to reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.
A healthy Laine would definitely boost our top 6 and would help the team take a leap forward in 2024-25. I wonder if that's what Kent Hughes is working on right now.
The Canadiens struggled with offense last season, while Laine has not thrived on a struggling Columbus team. This potential trade in the works could address both of these issues.
