According to reports, the Ottawa Senators are one of the teams interested in signing defenseman Arber Xhekaj from the Montreal Canadiens.

Habs insider Stu Cowan claims that Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis has urged the big blueliner to be more reliable and vigilant on the ice, so Xhekaj might be under pressure. St. Louis' worries may indicate that Montreal may consider trade offers for the young defenseman, giving the Senators and other teams a chance to submit a serious offer.
Georges Laraque, a former Canadiens enforcer, has also voiced his opinion, saying that Xhekaj might gain from a trade. He won't be coming out of the lineup like he does in Montreal, according to Laraque, who added that teams are interested in hiring him. This appeal from other NHL teams might give Xhekaj more regular ice time, which is crucial for a young defenseman's growth and self-assurance.
«I expect a better version,» St. Louis told a reporter who asked about the young blueliner's poor start to the season after practice.

One team that is especially interested in Xhekaj's skills is the Ottawa Senators.v Owner Michael Andlauer, who witnessed Xhekaj play a crucial part in guiding the Hamilton Bulldogs to the 2022 OHL championship, is said to admire his tough style. This approach fits in nicely with the Senators' continuous efforts to give their blue line more size and grit, which Xhekaj would undoubtedly help with. A player like Xhekaj could provide the Senators with the physical presence that completes a strong defensive group for Ottawa's future, as they have been developing a young core of talent.
The bench boss acknowledged that Xhekaj would return to the lineup for Montreal's game tonight against the St. Louis Blues, despite his somewhat caustic remarks. He also disclosed that Samuel Montembeault would start in goal.
Even though this trade scenario is currently only speculative, it appears to be a good fit for both parties, particularly given the Senators' desire to strengthen their blue line. Ottawa's defense has lacked the physical edge that Xhekaj would provide, which might provide him with the stability he needs to advance in the NHL.
