Despite their strong start to the season, the Montreal Canadiens will have to make a call-up after two of their key players suffered injuries.

The Montreal Canadiens are currently 2-3-0 after five games this season, but it's not surprising that they've had trouble at times considering Patrik Laine's serious injury late in the off-season. The team announced on social media that defenseman Kaiden Guhle is suffering from an injury that will require him to be evaluated every day going forward, so they are now dealing with yet another serious injury.

Although this might not keep him out for long, Mike Matheson has also missed practice, so the team will have to call up a player from the Laval Rocket in the AHL to cover for him. They did this by bringing up the contentious Logan Mailloux. The 21-year-old blue liner has two goals and two assists in two AHL games this season, proving that his performance from the previous season was not an anomaly. If he can perform well at the highest level, he might eventually be selected for a full-time position on the team.

Although there is a lot of negativity surrounding this situation, offering young players opportunities is the best course of action because it will enable players like Lane Hutson and Arber Xhekaj to potentially take on a much larger role.

A run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs was always going to be tough for Montreal in the competitive Atlantic Division, but if they can get some outstanding play from their young players, and with David Reinbacher and Laine expected back later in the season, along with Ivan Demidov's eventual arrival, the future is still very bright.
