Oilers captain Connor McDavid shuts down reporter during interview
When Mark Spector asked Connor McDavid one of his trademark vexing questions in a recent interview, the captain stood on his ground.
Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily reports that after practice today, McDavid ended questions regarding the Oilers' Cup Final defeat and made it clear that the team is moving on.
REPORTER: Is there anything, you know it was total devastation last year
MCDAVID: Enough about last year. Enough about last year.
REPORTER: Is there anything from that feeling, that moment that helps you this year, that you take out of it and you don't just erase?
MCDAVID: Uh I don't know. It's about this year, you know, I've talked a lot about last year. Lotta questions about it, lot of different things about last year. I've answered all of them, done everything. We're moving on. It's about this year.
The Oilers' preseason hasn't impressed Spector thus far. He criticizes the Edmonton Oilers for their messy, ill-groomed appearance. With the regular season just a few days away, he thinks a team as good as the Edmonton Oilers will be starting their season "under a cloud of doubt" and will not be good enough.
Spector has a reputation for being a harsh critic of the Edmonton Oilers, frequently getting under players' skin during media appearances and interviews by asking thought-provoking questions. Spector pushed the Oilers captain on this specific occasion, but McDavid is sick of hearing the same questions over and over again about what happened a year ago.
Many fans are eager to see if Connor McDavid and the Oilers can bounce back this year and make another cup final appearance, especially since ending their previous run in such dramatic fashion.
Tonight the Edmonton Oilers take on the Winnipeg Jets in an attempt to win their first game of the season.
