The Edmonton Oilers may have outshot the Florida Panthers last night, but Sergei Bobrovsky's stellar performance stole the show.
Rather than shouldering the blame for the humiliating defeat, Connor McDavid opted to reference the Oilers' game six victory over the Dallas Stars in the previous series, where they managed only 12 shots and were clearly outplayed.
Just as Bobrovsky dominated the ice last night, Stuart Skinner's outstanding performance in that particular game couldn't be overlooked, and McDavid acknowledged that the Oilers didn't merit the win.
"Maybe it was the hockey gods getting us back for that Game 6. You know where we probably didn't deserve to win."
"Tonight maybe we deserved at least one goal, maybe two goals, and we don't find a way to get them,"
"I know this group will stick with it, bounce back, that's what we take a lot of pride in doing. We'll gear up for a big one on Monday."
McDavid remains optimistic about turning the series around, expressing confidence in a strong showing from the Edmonton Oilers come Monday night the upcoming game will reveal if his assurance translates into action.
