Following his six-year signing contract with the Maple Leafs, NHL sportscaster Nick Kypreos disclosed the offer Chris Tanev turned down from the Dallas Stars.

On paper, the Dallas Stars appeared to be one of the NHL's top teams. However, despite their strong lineup, they struggled and ultimately lost to the Edmonton Oilers in six games in the Western Conference Finals.
"EDMONTON OILERS ARE GOING TO THE STANLEY CUP FINAL

The Edmonton Oilers defeat the Dallas Stars in six games to advance to the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 2006."
However, the team declined even further after Florida's victory in the Stanley Cup Finals. As part of their lackluster offseason trading strategy, they traded Chris Tanev's rights to the Toronto Maple Leafs, resulting in a six-year, $27 million contract.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed defenceman Chris Tanev to a six-year contract. The average annual value of the contract is $4.5 million."
Given Tanev's crucial role in the Dallas Stars' defensive strategy, many speculated about what offer he declined to move north. Former NHL player and sports journalist Nick Kypreos revealed that the team offered him $5 million per year but for only half the time Toronto offered.
"The Stars weren't in the same ballpark as the Leafs to entice Tanev to re-sign there. Their best offer was $15 million over three years."
With less security in the Dallas offer and the opportunity to play in his hometown, Chris Tanev's choice was clear. Hopefully, he will perform well for Toronto, or the Maple Leafs may later regret this long-term deal.
