Kim Weiss, the former assistant coach of the Maryland Black Bears, has made a significant leap in her coaching career by joining the Colorado Eagles, the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
Throughout the 2023-24 season, Weiss and Ohio State women's hockey assistant Kelsey Cline served as guest coaches for the Avalanche, contributing to development and training camps. Their presence clearly made a mark, leading to Weiss's official hiring this week.
Kim Weiss is now set to take on the role of video coach for the Colorado Eagles. She joins Emily Engel-Natzke and Jessica Campbell as the third woman to be hired by the Avalanche organization. Matt Zaba will also join the Eagles, taking on the role of goaltending coach.
Kim Weiss's addition to the AHL is a significant milestone in her coaching career. As she steps into this new role, she aims to meet the high standards of the league and possibly pave the way for more women to coach at the NHL level.
