Brendan Lemieux has built areputation as one of the dirtiest players in the NHL, and now another team has moved on from him as the Hurricanes officially waive him.

Despite being selected in the second round of the NHL Draft, Brendan Lemieux has struggled to catch on in the league, despite playing in 307 games with five teams over the past seven years.
In his last NHL season to date in 2023/24 with the Hurricanes, Lemieux managed just 3 goals and 5 points in 32 games played, and without a game played this year, his future in the league is up in the air.
Now even more so, as the Hurricanes made it official on Saturday as they terminated the contract of the controversial 28-year old, leaving him without a home in North America at this point in time.
This was only a matter of time it appears, as Lemieux's act in the NHL has certainly gotten old in recent years, and without the production at the NHL level to back it up, this move makes perfect sense for Carolina.
They already have one of the deepest forward groups in the NHL, and with the team rolling early in the year, this gave them the opportunity to move on from Lemieux, and if depth is needed, there are other options out there.
At 28-years of age with five teams already moving on from him in the NHL, it's unclear where Lemieux's future lies, but it may not be in North America, as he has just two points in 12 AHL games played this season.
We will see where he goes from here, but with just 36 goals and 74 points in 307 NHL games, Lemieux simply hasn't lived up to draft expectations, and it may force him to look overseas or elsewhere for a career in hockey.
