Insider reveals Nazem Kadri willing to waive no-trade clause
According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, Nazem Kadri's time with the Calgary Flames may be over.
Kadri inked a seven-year, $49 million deal with the Flames in the summer of 2022, shortly after capturing the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche. At that time, the Flames seemed poised to be a strong contender for years, making the contract appear sound.
However, Calgary's fortunes have since declined, with the team now leaning towards a rebuild. This shift could prompt Kadri to seek a move. David Pagnotta believes this could be the case, particularly if a suitable trade partner emerges.
Notably, Pagnotta even proposes that the Avalanche might be a potential destination.

"My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado."
Despite these developments, Kadri's statements during his end-of-season exit interview seem to contradict this. After the Flames' elimination from the playoffs, Kadri expressed his intention to honor the remainder of his contract with Calgary.
Nazem Kadri says he wants to stay in Calgary and see this through
It's worth noting that players can change their minds. Kadri has had ample time to reflect on his future in the NHL, and his thoughts might have evolved.
He might be driven by a desire for another championship and question whether the Flames can compete soon. Additionally, personal circumstances, like his family's contentment in Calgary, could play a role.
Nevertheless, this is still speculative, and Kadri may not be planning to leave at all. Regardless of his decision, this rumor has put the Flames back in the spotlight. Will they make a notable move this summer? Keep an eye out for updates.
