The ongoing contract dispute between the Boston Bruins and restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman is showing no signs of resolution.

The latest revelation on Swayman's asking price has heightened the stakes, putting the 25-year-old in a rarefied category.
According to recent reports, Swayman is seeking a hefty $10 million annually. This figure would place him alongside elite goaltenders like Stanley Cup Champion Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens icon Carey Price, the only goalies in NHL history to command such a cap hit.

With Price out of the game since 2022, Bobrovsky remains the only active goalie with a $10 million salary. New York Rangers' Igor Shesterkin is set to join this elite group next summer, adding even more pressure on the negotiations.
While Swayman has demonstrated durability as a goaltender, his resume lacks accolades like Vezina trophies, which may justify such a high asking price. Critics argue that he hasn't consistently proved himself as the clear-cut top option. Despite his solid performance, there are concerns about his ability to carry the team.
With the Bruins having already traded reigning Vezina winner Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, they are now left with Jonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi as their primary goaltenders. The team is keen to avoid heading into the season with such a limited goaltending duo, intensifying the urgency to resolve Swayman's contract situation.
Swayman's options as a restricted free agent are limited. If another team were to offer him a contract, it would require significant financial commitment, making such a move unlikely. The deadline for Swayman to sign is December 1; if he remains unsigned past this date, he will be ineligible to play for the remainder of the season.
As negotiations continue, both Swayman and Bruins GM Don Sweeney face critical decisions that will impact their respective futures. This standoff will be closely watched as the season approaches, with both parties needing to find common ground to move forward.
