Insider Chris Johnston recently revealed that the Boston Bruins have two players near the top of the trade board list, and Brad Marchand is surprisingly one of them.

NHL insider Chris Johnston has revealed his newest trade board for 'The Athletic', and it features a not-so-surprising Boston Bruins contingent.

Pending unrestricted free agent Trent Frederic came in at number 11, which isn't really that surprising. But the big surprise comes with Bruins captain Brad Marchand, who shows up at number 10 on the list.

Johnston provided some context for Marchand's placement:

"This is not a player we expected to find on the Big Board, even if he's currently playing out the final year on his contract. But as a league source noted this week, "I don't think anyone in Boston thought this is where they'd be at." If the decision to replace Jim Montgomery with Joe Sacco behind the Bruins bench doesn't produce the desired results, some difficult personnel decisions will almost certainly follow."

Marchand is in the last year of his deal and possesses an eight-team no-trade clause. If the Bruins are clearly out of playoff contention as the trade deadline nears with no extension in sight, he could certainly become one of, if not the most, coveted players.

Still, a Boston trade involving Marchand would certainly come as a surprise. With his value to the franchise so high, it would be a pretty shocking move.

Marchand has played 21 games this season, scoring five goals, notching 14 points, and posting a minus-3 rating.

This is definitely a situation that is going to be worth keeping an eye on, especially now that the team has a new coach in Joe Sacco, as their season and Marchand could head in either direction.
