A two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tyler Johnson won it all in 2020 and 2021 and brought some level of experience to the Bruins roster.
He stayed in Boston, training while he waited for a contract offer prior to signing. Johnson, 34, ended up signing a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Bruins back in November. This was after he joined the club at training camp on a professional tryout offer.
However unfortunately for him, he was waived today by the team, as per NHL insiders Conor Ryan and Elliotte Friedman.
Since joining the Bruins, Tyler Johnson has played his role in helping the performance of the team, however not so much as of late.
Following his signing with the Bruins, he had two assists and a minus-1 rating. He also was the odd man out often as of late, as he only played once this entire month on Dec. 12.
We will know in less than 24 hours whether Johnson was claimed by any other team, but he will definitely be a hot commodity due to his experience.
If Johnson does actually clear unconditional waivers, his contract will officially be over, and he will become a free agent again, free for any team to sign him.
