Penguins and Lightning broker a trade involving two young forwards
In their efforts to remain contenders for the next Stanley Cup, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins traded a couple of young forwards who have yet to make their NHL debut.
The Lightning and Penguins tuned out the year less impressively than either were expecting. After Pittsburgh just missed a chance at the playoffs, Tampa Bay could not make it happen against Florida Panthers and lost in Game 5 of the first round.
"Steven Stamkos soaks in the scenes in what could be his final game for the Lightning after Florida takes Game 5 to eliminate Tampa Bay. " Hoping to not miss another shot at the Cup this year, the Tampa Bay Lightning took a huge swing on one of the most sought-after players this trade season. They have officially acquired rights to Carolina Hurricanes forward Jake Guentzel and hope to sign him as soon as possible.
"Latest addition coming to Tampa! ⚡️
We have acquired forward Jake Guentzel from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. "
However, Tampa Bay was not quite finished with trading for the day. The Lightning moved forward with a trade deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins that sent them Bennet MacArthur for Lukas Svejkovsky.
"Another Bolt in the mix ⚡️
We have acquired forward Lukas Svejkovsky from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Bennett MacArthur." Both Svejkovsky and MacArthur are forwards who have yet to make their NHL debut. Yet, with bold performances in the ECHL, they may get a chance in the upcoming seasons. Hopefully, whatever their role in the lineup, will be a solid move for both teams and players. If not, it could be a fumble come the 2024-25 playoffs.
