Tragic cardiac event claims the life of 22-year-old University of Oregon goaltender Henry Bradford
The University of Oregon goalie Henry Bradford passed away today, capping a devastating few months for the hockey community.
Despite being a 5 foot 11 goalie from Arlington, Texas, Henry Bradford defied the odds throughout his hockey career. Henry Bradford, who was only 22 years old, sadly passed away.
"We regret to inform you that Henry 'Hank' Bradford - goaltender of the University of Oregon (ACHA) - has passed away 'unexpectedly' at the age of 22.
Bradford played 20 games with Oregon over the past three seasons, and previously played with the Utica Jr. Comets (USPHL Premier & NCDC)."
According to the Daily Emerald, an unexpected cardiac event claimed the life of Henry Bradford.
His team, the University of Oregon, posted the following statement on Instagram:
We are heartbroken to share that our Senior goaltender, Henry «Hank» Bradford unexpectedly passed away on Friday, September 20th 2024. Hank was an incredibly kind and thoughtful man with a contagious laugh and an amazing sense of humor. As great a goalie as he was, Hank was an even better human. He was the perfect example of treating people how you want to be treated, never missing an opportunity to call someone «sir or ma'am.»
Hank, your mustache and last second splits will go down in Oregon hockey history forever. We'll miss you #1.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Hank's family and friends.
Rest in peace, Hank
We love you
Henry Bradford's mother, Karin Erickson Bradford, speculated on social media that her son's death might have been caused by a "cardiac event" that occurred in Bradford's apartment.
Henry Bradford played for three years with the University of Oregon in Eugene, competing in the ACHA and appearing in 20 games. In his final season, he achieved a goals-against average of 4.15 and a save percentage of .883.
Although Hank Bradford never made it to the AHL or NHL, his influence on those around him was unmistakable. He and his family balanced his hockey commitments with their love for travel and nature.
In remembrance, the Bradford family has invited the public to plant a tree in his honor through a dedicated website.
We join in extending our deepest sympathies to his family and fans during this challenging time.
