The controversial former NHL player Alex Galchenyuk, once a promising talent, has reached a new low after being released from his KHL team SKA.
From NHL stardom to KHL exile
Galchenyuk's career began with great promise when he was the 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. However, after bouncing around the NHL with teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Arizona Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, and Colorado Avalanche, he had to leave North America due to legal troubles.
After being arrested on multiple charges in 2022, including private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest, and threatening or intimidating, Galchenyuk signed a one-year deal with SKA in the KHL. Despite a strong start in Russia, his tenure with SKA came to an abrupt end.

Last summer, shortly after his arrest, he joined SKA. Recently, the team decided to part ways with him, marking a significant downturn in his career.
New beginnings in the Far East of the KHL
According to Andrew Zadarnowski, Galchenyuk has signed a new contract with Amur Khabarovsk, located in the far eastern part of Russia:
"Alex Galchenyuk, who signed a two-year deal with SKA of the KHL in August 2023, has been released from his deal. He then signed a one-year contract with Amur Khabarovsk in the far east side of Russia."
Despite his legal issues, Galchenyuk's performance on the ice was notable. In 61 games with SKA this season, he scored 42 points, including 16 goals, and contributed five points in nine playoff games.
The question now remains: Should Alex Galchenyuk continue to play professional hockey given his legal history?
