Following some developments surrounding the death of a 41-year-old, Tyler Totten, an 18-year-old hockey player, has been taken into custody.
The attack, according to Fredericton police, took place early on September 22 outside the Tannery, a park-like area with a number of bars on either side between King and Queen streets. A week later, police confirmed in a press release that two men had been attacked, one of whom had suffered serious injuries.
In connection with the beating, three young people-two of whom were 17 years old and one of whom was 16-were also charged with manslaughter. None of the young people can be identified as confirmed members of the Red Wings organization due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The team and the league are working with Fredericton police, according to Maritime Junior Hockey League spokesperson James Faulkner, who also stated that the issue is unrelated to hockey. Kyle McAllister, the Red Wings' general manager, declined to comment. The hockey community will undoubtedly be closely monitoring this case as it progresses.
