The St. Louis Blues struggled on the ice yesterday in an 8-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. The Blues never had a chance, with both of their goalies struggling to stop pucks. Indeed, Jordan Binnington replaced Joel Hofer between the pipes in the middle of the second period after he allowed his fifth goal of the night. Binnington came in, but couldn't stop the Sens either, who scored three more goals.
Binnington and Hofer ended the night with a save percentage under .800 in the Blues' second straight loss.
With only a few minutes left in the game, a scrum emerged near the Blues' net, and Binnington was watching the situation closely. When he saw Brady Tkachuk going after Philip Broberg, who already had his hands full with defenseman Tyler Kleven, he didn't hesitate to jump in.
On the other side of the ice, Linus Ullmark kept a close eye on Binnington, and for a little while, it looked like they were about to meet at the center of the ice to drop the gloves.
The Senators and the Blues will only face each other one more time this season, on January 3rd. It'll be interesting to see if Ullmark and Binnington if they can avoid injuries until then, will be tempted to drop the gloves.
Meanwhile the Blues will try to bounce back from that tough stretch tomorrow, as they visit Matvei Michkov and the Philadelphia Flyers. As for the Sens, they prepare for a much tougher challenge on Friday: the New York Rangers at the Madison Square Garden.
