Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon clarified Jonathan Marchessault's departure and discussed key offseason moves during an interview on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio.

Recently, Jonathan Marchessault opened up about why he parted ways with the Golden Knights during his appearance on The Cam & Strick Podcast.
Now, Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon clarified the misconceptions about Jonathan Marchessault's departure from Las Vegas during an interview on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio Thursday morning.
McCrimmon revealed that the team offered Marchessault a four-year contract, but Nashville's five-year offer was ultimately the deciding factor.
"We offered four years, but Nashville went to five. That wasn't a term we were comfortable with." -McCrimmon explained.
He added that, "While emotionally attached to Marchessault, the decision was based on maintaining long-term team flexibility."

New Opportunities for Holtz and Olofsson

McCrimmon also highlighted the addition of young winger Alexander Holtz, saying Vegas presents an opportunity for him to thrive. Victor Olofsson, a former teammate of Jack Eichel, was brought in to fill gaps left by departures like Marchessault and William Carrier.
"We've got opportunities on the wing, and both players are eager to step up."

Strengthening Goaltending Depth

With Adin Hill returning and the addition of Ilya Samsonov, McCrimmon feels confident in the team's goaltending depth.
We've made moves to ensure we're well-covered in net. Both Adin and Ilya are key to that plan.

Under the leadership of GM Kelly McCrimmon and hockey operations president George McPhee, Vegas has thrived. In seven NHL seasons, the team has captured a Stanley Cup, two Campbell Bowls, 11 playoff series, 57 postseason victories, and 312 regular-season wins. Undoubtedly, they rank among the most successful NHL franchises during this period.
As the 2024-25 season approaches, McCrimmon's moves reflect a focus on maintaining competitiveness while making tough, strategic decisions.
