General manager Patrik Allvin of the Vancouver Canucks has announced today that Aatu Räty will be demoted and assigned to Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL.

Center Aatu Räty has been assigned by the Vancouver Canucks to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks. Räty averaged 9:41 of ice time and recorded an assist in all three of Vancouver's games this season. Additionally, he went four for five in the defensive zone and 14 for 23 in the faceoff dot.
Following a successful Training Camp and preseason, Räty earned a spot on the opening night roster. The Canucks acquired the 21-year-old in 2023 as part of the trade for Bo Horvat.
The Canucks are on a three-game losing streak to start the season and need to shake things up to try to turn it around. This move follows the team's announcement that defenseman Erik Brannstrom will be called up to the NHL after having a fantastic start in the minor leagues.
For the foreseeable future, Vancouver will cover the void with a mix of Arshdeep Bains and Nils man. In limited action last year, the two scored seven points together, but they haven't combined for any points this year yet.
For the time being, Räty will remain in Abbotsford, where he spent the entire previous season. Räty had his best season since coming to North America at the end of the 2021-22 season, scoring 18 goals and 52 points in 72 games for the AHL Canucks last year. He also added four points in six playoff games.
