Defenseman Erik Brannstrom was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks from the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday in exchange for defenseman Tucker Poolman.

In exchange for Tucker Poolman and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the Canucks have acquired D Erik Brannstrom from the Colorado Avalanche.
The 31-year-old hasn't played since 2022, the Canucks have retained 20% of Poolman's $2.5-million cap hit.
On July 2, the 26-year-old Brannstrom agreed to a $900,000 one-year contract with the Avalanche. Despite playing 76 games with the Ottawa Senators last season and scoring three goals and twenty points, he was not extended a qualifying offer.
In 266 NHL games during his career with Ottawa, Brannstrom has seven goals and 69 points. He made his NHL debut with the Senators in 2018-19.
Through Poolman's trade, Vancouver is able to build up cap space all season long without having to use long-term injured reserve. After the deal, the Canucks' cap space is just under $1.2 million, per PuckPedia.
The Canucks take on the Calgary Flames on Wednesday to begin their regular season schedule.
