The long-standing rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs flared up again as Fraser Minten of the Leafs was forced to leave the game following a hit by Montreal's David Reinbacher.

The play occurred while Minten was on the penalty kill, fighting for possession of the puck. As he turned toward the boards, Reinbacher came in with a crosscheck to the nameplate on Minten's jersey. This hit has already sparked some to label it as a dirty move, intensifying the rivalry between the teams.

Minten does not return after second period

Minten was slow to rise after the hit and did not rejoin Easton Cowan for the penalty kill by the end of the second period. Soon after, Eric Engels reported that Minten would be kept out of the game as a precaution. This information was later confirmed by Hockey News writer Nick Barden.

Minten's injury status remains unclear

Minten appeared to be favoring his left foot as he left the ice, sparking concerns that he may have rolled his ankle or sustained a more serious injury. However, Maple Leafs fans will have to wait for an official assessment from the team's medical staff before knowing the full extent of the injury.
The Leafs can afford to take their time with Minten's recovery, as his path to making the roster is relatively clear. There's no need to rush him back into action until they're confident he's 100% ready to return.
As the rivalry between the Canadiens and Maple Leafs continues to intensify, all eyes will remain on Minten's status as both teams gear up for the next chapter in their storied history.
