The Toronto Maple Leafs made a significant move by bringing in Max Pacioretty, who signed a professional tryout contract to join the team's training camp next week.

The 36-year-old forward, formerly of the Montreal Canadiens, brings both experience and depth to the Leafs' lineup, a much-needed addition as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Earlier today, the Leafs confirmed the news on X, stating that Pacioretty will attend the camp and that a full contract is expected to be finalized before the regular season begins.
The anticipation surrounding Pacioretty's potential impact is palpable, as fans hope for a boost to the Leafs' offensive depth, particularly on the third line alongside Max Domi.

Allan walsh provides additional details

Allan Walsh, Pacioretty's agent, added some interesting details in his own post, mentioning that a standard player contract is highly likely before the Leafs' first game of the season against none other than Pacioretty's former team, the Montreal Canadiens, on October 9th. Walsh confirmed the news via this post:
The PTO seems to be a temporary solution, allowing the Leafs' general manager, Brad Treliving, to create the necessary salary cap space to bring Pacioretty on board permanently. With various roster moves potentially on the horizon, including speculation about trading players like Nick Robertson or even Mitch Marner, fans are curious about the team's next steps.
Chris Johnston also confirmed the general structure of the deal.
Unlike typical professional tryout agreements, which only offer players a chance to earn a contract post-training camp, Pacioretty seems to be getting special consideration, with his signing with the Maple Leafs almost certain.
Cap space is clearly the issue at hand for Toronto. Treliving's options appear limited, especially after the recent signing of Nick Robertson. It's becoming evident that a trade involving him is likely, given the tight cap situation.
Fans eagerly await Pacioretty's performance on the ice, especially in tandem with Domi on the third line. His offensive skills and veteran presence could bring the consistency and depth the Leafs need to strengthen their lineup.
With training camp just around the corner, it won't be long before we see how the Leafs' roster takes shape and whether Pacioretty is able to secure his place in Toronto's plans for the season.
