During his post-game press conference last night, head coach Craig Berube of the Toronto Maple Leafs criticized one of his young players, Pontus Holmberg.

Some players still haven't found their rhythm, which is not surprising given that the season has only been played five games. A few Leafs players did well in last night's game against the New York Rangers, but Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers' goalie, was unquestionably the best player on the ice. He stopped 34 shots that were thrown at him and gave up just one goal, giving him a .971 save percentage at the end of the evening.
As usual, coach Berube got right to the point in his post-game remarks: they need to perform better.
"We had opportunities. I think we can do a better job of taking his eyes away a little bit more. We had a lot of looks. We got to execute better in the third on the power play and 6-on-5."

The coach continued by pointing out Pontus Holmberg, a young player for the Leafs. Although Holmberg is currently lagging behind, Berube believes that he could catch up if he put in more effort:
"He's got to battle a little bit harder for pucks and hang onto the pucks a little bit more like he was in training camp. He looks just a little step behind right now maybe"
Many fans are confused how Holmberg gets to start over the likes of veteran Max Pacioretty who has played very well in his few appearances.
The Leafs are among the NHL's best teams, but so are the Rangers. The team must be able to defeat any organization, including other elite competitors, if they hope to win a Stanley Cup. On Monday, when the Leafs play the Tampa Bay Lightning in an Atlantic Division game, we'll see how Holmberg recovers.
