Contract negotiations between Max Domi and the Maple Leafs have come to a halt

A recent report has raised some uncertainty about the future of Toronto Maple Leafs player Max Domi as he approaches free agency.
The Toronto Maple Leafs had hoped to re-sign Max Domi this summer with reports suggesting his desire to return. Both Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi were anticipated to engage in contract discussions with the team.

However according to a report by Maple Leafs journalist Steve Simmons, there may be a need for Max Domi to seek a new agent if he wishes to remain part of the team.
If I were Max Domi and I wanted to stay with the Leafs, I'd find myself a new agent. The numbers being floated around for Domi don't fit what the Leafs will be looking at.
At 29 years old Max Domi is at a turning stage in his NHL career. Players typically experience a decline in performance as they enter their 30s. Therefore the Maple Leafs may prefer a short term deal though this could lead to an increase, in salary cap implications. Given that Max Domi earned $3 million last season he will likely seek a significant pay raise.
As Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs move towards the end of the season, deciding on Max Domi's contract looms as one of their main tasks. The connection he shares with the teams head coach, Craig Berube could play a role in determining whether an agreement will be reached.
