The Pittsburgh Penguins have completed a roster transaction following Evgeni Malkin's injury.

Following a tough start to the season, things were starting to look up for the Pittsburgh Penguins, currently in the fifth spot of the Metropolitan Division, only two points away from the fourth rank held by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In a new update, the organization shared two news: a good one and a bad one.

On X, the team announced that Philip Tomasino had been activated from the Injury Reserve and sent the veteran forward Evgeni Malkin the other way around.

Here's what they posted:

Tomasino, 23, was acquired earlier this season by the Penguins in a trade with the Nashville Predators.

When he was traded to the Pens, in late November, Tomasino made the following declaration:

"I think everything happens for a reason. I'm glad to be here. I don't even want to say too much about what happened in Nashville, but all I can say is, obviously, I think this is a great opportunity for me. Really excited to be here and I'm excited for the rest of the year."

Since joining the Penguins, he scored seven points, including four goals, in 16 games.

He was injured in a game against the Florida Panthers and appears ready to return to the lineup.

As for Malkin, he missed the last three games with an upper-body injury:

This season, in 41 games, the 38-year-old veteran has 32 points, including eight goals, with a -17 rating.

The Penguins will be back in action today against the Tampa Bay Lightning. With two points, they would tie the Blue Jackets at the fourth spot in the Metropolitan Division.

Fans are surely hoping to see other players stand up in Malkin's absence as the team looks to bounce back from yesterday's tough 5-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Breaking News

Michael Bunting will not play tonight, according to Mike Sullivan, who also stated that everyone is safe after the winger was involved in a car accident outside PPG Paints Arena.

Regardless of the severity, car accidents are extremely stressful! Tonight, we hope he can decompress.
