Frankie Corrado shares his perspective on Sidney Crosby's future with the Penguins, hinting at the possibility of another playoff appearance despite recent challenges.

The Pittsburgh Penguins, long known for their 16-season playoff streak, have now missed the postseason for two straight years. This downturn has led to doubts about whether their veteran stars, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, can still contend for the Stanley Cup as they near the end of their careers.
With one year left on his contract, Sidney Crosby is expected to sign an extension, potentially finishing his career with the Penguins. This raises important questions about his legacy: Will Crosby get another shot at the playoffs, or will he retire without another postseason appearance?
On TSN's recent segment of "Hot or Not", analyst Frankie Corrado gave his take on Sidney Crosby's prospects with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite the team's playoff drought over the past two years, Corrado is cautiously optimistic that Crosby could lead the Penguins to at least one more postseason appearance.
"I'm going to say not, and this might be an unpopular opinion based on the lack of success that the Pittsburgh Penguins have had the last couple of years."

"But I find it hard to believe that in "now or never" mode, we are not going to see Sidney Crosby playing in the playoffs as a member of the Penguins. And this year specifically, the Metro is a little more wide open."
The Metropolitan Division is shaping up to be less predictable this season, which could benefit the Penguins. Corrado pointed out that while the Rangers and the Devils remain strong contenders, other teams in the division, like the Islanders, Hurricanes, and Capitals, are in a state of transition.
"Outside of the Rangers and the Devils, who have to take a significant step, the Islanders aren't overly exciting, Carolina might take a step back, and the Washington Capitals are trying to improve. You can put the Pittsburgh Penguins in that category of teams-clump them in there-and maybe they have a chance."

Crosby, now embarking on his 20th NHL season, continues to be a dominant force. His stellar performance in the 2022-23 season, where he notched 94 points and moved up to 10th on the NHL's all-time scoring list, highlights his ongoing impact on the ice.
"It's now or never for the Penguins, but with Sidney Crosby maybe playing for a few more years, we might see him in the playoffs one more time as a Penguin. I sure hope we do, just as hockey fans. - Corrado added."

While the Penguins may not be the clear favorites, the duo of Crosby and Evgeni Malkin keeps them in the mix. The team will need to make some key changes, but with Crosby's high-level play, a return to the playoffs is still within reach.
Looking ahead, Crosby's contract with the Penguins is set to expire on July 1, 2025. With training camp on the horizon, the pressure is mounting for him to sign a new deal. Many expect an agreement to be reached before the camp kicks off.
