A few days ago, one of hockey's greatest future hall of famers decided that this season will be his last. Jaromir Jagr decided at age 52, to retire from playing professional hockey.
Jagr has accomplished more than most in 30 seasons of professional hockey. His recent assist this season forced him to have to wait for his induction into the hockey Hall of Fame until 2028. The rules require players to be inactive for a certain amount of time to be eligible.
Now, Jagr is showing just how good he is, with this amazing move to finish off the shot and score.
He takes a spinning backhand shot on the goaltender. He continued to chip at the puck after the shot was stopped to slide by the goalie. It is an elite type of shot and play for an elite player to make and at 52 no less.
Last season Jaromir Jagr did not even score a goal. In two games this season with the Knights, he has two points. Not too bad for a 52-year-old ready to retire next year.
With Jagr's competitive drive, it is no doubt that if this is his last year in professional hockey he will want to go out with a bang. He still has the moves to play, and does not seem to be slowing down yet.
Jagr, after playing two seasons for Kladno to start his career, was drafted 5th overall in the first round of the 1990 draft. He quickly became a fan favorite in Pittsburgh, with his signature mullet. In 11 years as a Penguin, Jagr scored a total of 1,079 points in 806 games. His number is in the rafters at PPG Paints Arena.
