A former Pittsburgh Penguins player passes away, leaving a legacy in his community.

As reported by the NHL Alumni Association on X, former NHL player Mike Meeker has passed away at the age of 66.
Playing even a single game in the National Hockey League (NHL) is an accomplishment that few can claim, and Mike Meeker was one of those fortunate athletes. Tragically, the hockey world has lost Meeker, a former Pittsburgh Penguins player, at the age of 66.
His passing was announced by the NHL Alumni Association, marking a somber moment for those who knew him both on and off the ice.
Meeker was selected 25th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. Although his NHL career was brief, with just four games played for the Penguins, his impact went far beyond the rink. After his time in the NHL, Meeker's career took him to various leagues across North America and Europe, including stints in the NCAA, OHL, AHL, and Sweden.
But Meeker's true legacy lies in his contributions off the ice. He was known not just as a player but as a mentor, coach, and volunteer who dedicated his life to improving his community.
Meeker used his experiences to guide young athletes, helping to shape the future of many in his area. His dedication to his community made him a beloved figure, and his influence will be felt for years to come.
Our deepest condolences go out to Mike Meeker's family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing is a significant loss, and the hockey community mourns the loss of a player who made the world around him a better place.
Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
