Sidney Crosby signed a new contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins this past off-season, which could keep him in the team until the end of his NHL career, putting an end to months of rumors. Given Crosby's background, many people expected him to accept the $8.7 million AAV clause in his contract, but many others doubted this would happen considering the potential value.
Nevertheless, the NHL community was shocked when it finally came to pass, and Nathan MacKinnon was one of those people. The Cole Harbour native shared his thoughts on the matter in the most recent episode of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast.
Naturally, MacKinnon was very complimentary and supportive of Crosby, but he also acknowledged that when he asked, he didn't think Crosby would accept this deal.
Ever the team player, Crosby wants one last chance to win a Stanley Cup. After an incredible career that has included plenty of accomplishments and three Stanley Cups, no one would have blamed him if he wanted to take more money, whether in Pittsburgh or somewhere else. Given his consistency and everything he has accomplished in his career, this will undoubtedly contribute to his legacy when he is done. If he could add another Stanley Cup run, that would solidify his status as one of the greatest players in NHL history, if not already.
