The Philadelphia Flyers' goaltending situation has been challenging in recent years. When Alexei Kolosov, a former third-round pick, joined the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the 2023/24 season, there was optimism he could be a future NHL star.
However, this offseason has taken a turn for the worse, as Kolosov has requested his KHL team, Dynamo Minsk, to assist him in exiting his NHL contract to return to Europe.
Over the last five years, the 22-year-old Kolosov played for Dynamo Minsk in the KHL, finishing his stint with an impressive 2.39 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 47 games. His brief tenure in North America last season included just two KHL games, where he went 1-1 and showed potential as an NHL prospect. Unfortunately, this summer's developments have been a significant setback for the team.
Similar to Evgeny Kuznetsov, Kolosov seems to have struggled with homesickness since joining the Flyers. While his on-ice potential remains promising, these off-ice challenges could significantly affect his NHL prospects.
