Igor Shesterkin's agent is negotiating a deal that could make the New York Rangers goalie the highest paid in the NHL.

Shesterkin's standout performances during the playoffs have only fueled these discussions.
New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin demonstrated his elite skills throughout the team's recent playoff campaign. Despite the Rangers' early exit, Shesterkin's stellar performance was highlighted by a 2.28 GAA and an impressive .927 save percentage. As he nears the end of his current contract, Shesterkin, who turns 28 this season, is eyeing a significant extension.
Reports suggest that Shesterkin is aiming for a deal that could exceed Artemi Panarin's $11.64 million annual salary, potentially making him the highest-paid player on the Rangers. According to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, his agent might be targeting an average annual value (AAV) of $12 million for the new contract.
"My agent, Maxim Moliver, is talking to the general manager," Shesterkin said. "I can't say anything else. For me, the most important thing now is preparing for the season and being 100% ready mentally and physically. An exciting season is ahead, and the agent will discuss the contract."
Securing such a deal would set a new high for goaltender contracts in the NHL. Currently, Carey Price's eight-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens stands as the top contract, with an AAV of $10.5 million. Andrei Vasilevskiy's deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning has a $9.5 million cap hit over eight years. The Rangers have a history of heavily investing in their goaltenders, evident from Henrik Lundqvist's seven-year, $59.5 million contract signed in December 2013, which carried an $8.5 million cap hit.
Shesterkin's consistent performance, including a 2.58 GAA and .913 save percentage last season, reinforces his position among the NHL's elite goaltenders. With his track record, he is poised to secure a contract that reflects his status as one of the game's best.
