According to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, his agent might be targeting an average annual value (AAV) of $12 million for the new contract.
Securing such a deal would set a new high for goaltender contracts in the NHL. Currently, Carey Price's eight-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens stands as the top contract, with an AAV of $10.5 million. Andrei Vasilevskiy's deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning has a $9.5 million cap hit over eight years. The Rangers have a history of heavily investing in their goaltenders, evident from Henrik Lundqvist's seven-year, $59.5 million contract signed in December 2013, which carried an $8.5 million cap hit.
